WEBINAR TITLE:
Smart Pump Integration: A Giant Step for IV Infusion Safety
Date & Time:
Thursday, October 23, 2014, from 1:30pm - 3:00pm EST
Program Overview:
Adoption of smart pump technology has helped to minimize risks associated with infusing intravenous medications; however, errors still persist. Join our speaker as she shares her organization’s journey to closing the gap on IV medication errors using smart pump integration.
Integration links the medication order directly to the infusion device. The pump is prepopulated with infusion parameters contained in the medication order (provider placed, pharmacist verified); thereby eliminating pump programming errors. Nursing efficiencies are gained as a 17-step manual pump programming workflow is reduced to 7 steps with integration. All pump activities (titrations, stops, volume infused) are automatically pulled into the electronic medical record eliminating the need for manual transcription of these actions ensuring accurate information for informed clinical decision making.
The presentation will include a discussion of IV infusion workflow, lessons learned, and integration readiness. In addition, our speaker will highlight how her organization used the data from smart pump integration for organizational learning and quality improvement to further support their patient safety goals.
