ENFit

Happy New Year Everyone!

Our health system has starting working on transitioning to ENFit. As we started to investigate the options for pharmacy, we were intrigued with the Medela dual cap as it would allow pharmacy to continue to use the legacy oral syringes. Theoretically, the dual caps could be stocked on the nursing units for staff to access when a medication is to be administered via feeding tube. As we all know, orders on the MAR are not ordered via the correct route (e.g., entered as po but actually administered per NG Tube) and pharmacy may not be aware that a particular dose needs to be prepared in an ENFit syringe. I am curious to see if any other facilities considered utilizing the dual cap. Why did you decide for/against its use?

Thank you in advance.
