Independent check - pump programming

How exactly do your RN perform this (when indicated with select meds requiring such per your policy)?

The issue we encounter is that after 1st RN programs pump, it will start beeping after 90 sec if infusion is not started (we use Alaris pumps which so many of us use). That leaves little time for 2nd RN to come in and truly independently check programming against original order.

Please advise - do you not have 1st RN program until 2nd RN has checked anything else they need to, then 1st RN programs, then leaves, then 2nd RN checks against order? Or something else? And what about in interoperability?

Thanks in advance!

Julie
