Pharmacy departments continually avoided the control of alcohol beverages for good reasons! I am dealing with an institutional facility policy that allows a physician to "prescribe" an alcoholic beverage, E.g. 1 x 12 oz. commercially available beer to a short length of stay patient. Pharmacy monitors nutritional alcohol drug reactions but now the facility's contracted dietary vendor can not provide alcohol to patients per their policy and license. When length of stay is too short for detox, it may be required to provide patient alcohol. Albeit a rare event, is anyone familiar with process management for an institutional facility pharmacy to store and dispense alcohol to inpatients? Thank you!
