Hi there,
We are currently looking at the practice of storing emergency medications at the patient's bedside in the ICU that are nurse prepared (pediatric institution). This includes controlled substances and non controlled substances. Does anyone have an SOP or policy surrounding this that they are willing to share? The nursing staff is expressing concerns with having to go to the ADC, remove the medication, and prepare it for a patient they know is at risk of self extubation, decompensation, etc (in terms of time it takes to do this). As a pharmacy department, we are trying to maintain sterility and prevent diversion while promoting safe nursing practices. Any suggestions welcomed! Thank you!
