Hello,
We're a pediatric hospital using tons of pre-filled saline flushes. The majority of nurses use the syringe smart pump. The issue is they consistently have problems with the pump recognizing the syringe thus difficulty performing the desired flush. This is likely because we have yet to find a pump, which has a prefilled saline syringe, validated for use in their pump.
The nurses end up doing all kinds of antics to try to eventually get the syringe recognized.
We've spoke to the pump manufacturers as well as the BD representatives (Posi-Flush). No one seems to have this known issue as a priority.
Does anyone have a workable solution to this issue? Nursing is opposed to pulling up each flush from a saline vial and we don't have the capacity to draw up saline syringes for the volume we use. We really don't want nursing to continue to use the pump and any product in a way its not been validated for doing so.
Thanks.
