What are some practices at your institution’s ophthalmology clinics?

Hello, I wanted to survey practices done at different institutions’ ophthalmology clinics to optimize our clinic’s practice from a medication safety perspective.

1. How are orders placed/communicated to the clinic staff from providers? (How do nurses/eye clinic staff know what medications to give)

2. Are providers placing orders through the electronic health system (ex., Order Sets)?
a) If so, what are some examples of medications your providers place through
the electronic health system?
b) If not, how are they communicating orders?

3. Is there an example of an order set or policy/procedure you are willing to share about practices at your ophthalmology clinics?

4. Does your clinic use barcode scanning for the eye drops? If not, what safety measures are in place to prevent incorrect medications from being administered to the patient?

Thank you!
