Hello all! I have two students (Kristina Rosus and Irene Yang)who are we are P3 student interns at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, VA. For our summer project we are monitoring enteral medication administration to ensure that patients with feeding tubes are receiving their medications optimally. To do so, we are using references to monitor proper drug administration, such as the ISMP do not crush list, Handbook of Medication Administration via Enteral Tubes, Carilion's own policy on medication administration, the JPEN Enteral Nutrition Practice Recommendations, and various drug monographs. We are reaching out to in order to see if anyone has any standard references that they use for enteral medication administration, other than the ones we have found thus far. Also, if anyone has looked into enteral medication administration practices at their own institution, we would really love to hear how you have gone about changing your practice based upon the findings.
The main goal of our project is to determine how our institution can improve upon patient care when it comes to enteral medication administration. If anyone is willing to share their institution's, or personal, protocol/guidelines we would be extremely appreciative! Please feel free to connect with us through email at kmrosus@carilionclinic.org or iyyang@carilionclinic.org. Thank you in advance for any and all responses and/or advice!
