Sublingual tacrolimus

Forums:

Our hospital would like to start giving tacrolimus via the SL route for patients unable to swallow the capsule.
Does anyone administer tacrolimus sublingually in their hospital and has a policy or process to share on how it is being administered, respecting that it is listed as a Group 2 hazardous medication on NIOSH's hazardous drug list?

Thank you! Alex

Good morning,

We are in the process of developing USP 800 Hazardous Med Education for nursing. Has anyone developed the nursing component of education and are you willing to share? Specifically looking for how nursing will identify the hazardous med, PPE requirements and how you plan to hardwire the process.

Thank you,

Hazardous Med Dispensing Practice--Double bag or no Double Bag

Forums:

Hi All,
Looking to find out what your practice is when dispensing hazardous medications as defined by NIOSH/OSHA/Your Hospital.

Do you dispense the IV medication inside of a Ziplock bag?

Do you double bag this bag?

Do you require individuals handling the ziplock bag or double bagged medications to wear gloves when handling the outer bag in transport/prior to taking out the medication for administration?

Thank you in advance!
Tina
