Per nursing reports and Alaris alert data from the last 3 months, we have seen a significant increase (about 5-10x) in occlusion alarms occurring during 20% mannitol infusions. We use BD IV tubing, and BD 0.2 micron low protein binding filter extension sets, and currently have ICU medical 20% mannitol 500 mL bags.

I've contacted BD and ICU Medical and am awaiting follow-up. Does anyone else have this problem too or have any experience troubleshooting this or similar issues?

We are in the process of updating cleaning processes for our Alaris infusion pumps. we have run into some questions and I was hoping to get feedback from other facilities on how they are accomplishing the process:

How frequently are the BD Alaris PCU and modules being cleaned for both inpatient and outpatient infusion centers. Between every patient, daily, or weekly?

Who is responsible for cleaning process for Alaris pumps?

Are the modules disconnected from the PCU and cleaned each time?

Are IUI covers used during the cleaning process?

We recently implemented Alaris / Epic interop throughout our 8 hospital system. We're using Epic's daily compliance report to monitor compliance and identify & resolve issues.

Compliance with albumin administration via interop is almost zero. Nurses are administering via gravity because it takes hours to infuse with vented Alaris tubing due to the frequent alarms.

Hello! We are reviewing our configuration setting for the Key Click Audio setting in the BD Alaris infusion pumps. The default is to have this setting enabled so there's a beep with every key pressed. We've had a request to disable this setting so was wondering if others have turned that off or have reasons to leave it on. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
