pulling more than 1 patient's meds

Do any of your hospitals allow nursing staff to pull more than 1 patient's medications at a time from an ADC?

Thanks for your input!

Our facilities do not allow

Our facilities do not allow an RN to pull multiple pts meds from ADC at the same time. I perform Med Pass Audits and one of the items on the tally sheet is: Does RN pull and administer only 1 patient's meds at a time? If the answer is 'No', education will be provided to the RN as a deviation from policy or protocol.

I agree with Greg. All of the

This practice is not allowed. I agree with Greg. All of the facilities I work with across the country have policies consistent with ISMP's guidance for Safe Use of Automated Dispensing Cabinets (Core Process 8-Require that practitioners remove medications from the ADC one patient at a time). This policy helps reduce medication errors and, in the case of controlled medications, diversion.
