Multum synonym-obsolete status

My Health System is a Cerner/Oracle site and we've been made aware that a few of our Multum-provided synonyms for medications (particularly Brand name Zofran and Ancef) are being obsoleted. The IT team and I are wondering if there are recommendations/best practices on whether to follow the Cerner recommendation to remove these from the ordering system. Not doing so can cause a multitude of downstream effects, particularly with e-prescribing and when performing discharge medication reconciliation. My gut tells me that we should follow these recommendations but I'm wondering if anyone has experience/ or has been made aware of any medication errors of pitfalls when doing so. Zofran and Ancef are so culturally embedded that there is some concern amongst our stakeholders that providers/prescribers will have difficulty with this change. We, of course, have historically done this (brand name Keflex the most recent example) but that was prior to my tenure and I'm hoping to just do my due diligence in asking the question upfront.
