cyclosporine solution via enteral tube

I've seen a variation of this question posted before, but not answered.
How does your organization set the nurse up for cyclosporine administration via enteral tube? The manufacturer supplied syringe is NOT ENFit compatible, creating a difficult situation for administration of this hazardous drug.

Appreciate input from others,

ENFit disposables in Outpatient Pharmacy

Stacie Ethington's picture

Forums:

Good morning,

If your organization has converted to ENFit:
1. Is your outpatient pharmacy supplying any ENFit disposables (syringes, adapters, bottle transfer lids, etc.)?
2. If so, are these items being charged to the patient or are the items provided as part of the prescription?
3. At discharge from inpatient, are any supplies provided?

My organization converted in October 2020 and as more facilities in our region convert, the need for certain disposables has changed as patients become more saavy with the connections. I appreciate your input.

We are in the final stages of Enfit conversion for our children's hospital. Did any of you who have converted utilize transition connectors during the transition period from regular connector to Enfit connector? We had planned to but now our product reps have warned against them due to the dead space particularly with small volume medications in the neonatal population. How did you handle this? Did you change all patient's currently with NG/OG tube on product transition day?

Thanks!

ENFit Oral Syringes

Our NICU wants to switch to NeoMed ENFit supplies.

After reviewing ISMP articles and other documentation, I'm concerned that this may not be the safest path to go. Even with the low dose tip, it seems there are concerns dosing variances higher than legacy male tip oral dose syringes. Yet, when I go to the manufacturer's website, their main focus seems to be neonates.

Any thoughts from any of you who have already been down this road?

My organization is transitioning to EnFit, and I would appreciate any information on the following:
1. Did you transition ALL of your oral and enteral medication doses to syringes w/a the unique enteral connector?
2. For meds dispensed in syringes w/the enteral connector, are you using clear enteral syringes w/the purple plunger, or enteral amber syringes?
3. Did your organization research which oral liquids require protection from light to inform #2, and if so, can you share your resource for that?
