IVIG in Outpatient Areas

Forums:

Hi all! I know this topic has come up before but hoping to learn more about how other institutions handle IVIG dispensing/administration specifically in the outpatient setting (such as in an infusion center).

Inpatient we dispense patient-specific bags but outpatient we dispense bags of multiple vials that leads to cumbersome workflows for nursing and less safety measures with scanning.

1) How do you dispense IVIG doses outpatient
2) If you use multiple vials, what measures are in place to ensure safe administration

Thank you!!

Hello! Please see the SBAR below and make sure to like the post linked at the end if your facility could also use this EPIC functionality for titratable IVIG order.

*Situation
Current EPIC ERx build (Sanford Health Fargo) for IVIG titratable infusion does not allow for safe IVIG administration and documentation.

IVIG Dispensing Method - Quick Poll

Forums:

Hi everyone,

I am trying to gain a better understanding of how different locations approach their dispensing process for IVIG (vials vs pooling).

This forms poll should take ~ 1 minute to complete and I will circle back with the results in when it closes on June 1st.

I appreciate any additional feedback you feel comfortable sharing around decision making to pursue one method or the other.

IVIG and concurrent IV fluids

Hi all,

Wondering if anyone else has come across this issue and/or what your policies are:

Turns out our infusion nurses are often running IVIG concurrently with IV fluids for "patient comfort/minimizing side effects." This is definitely not done on our inpatient side (we would simply decrease the infusion rate). We mostly use Gammagard liquid and Privigen, and neither one has information on concurrent IV fluid administration or compatibility information.
