neonatal starter TPNs

Forums:

What does your facility use for NeoNatal Starter TPNs? Do you use a pre-made product or does the pharmacy prepare the starter solution?
If pharmacy prepares the solution, what is the formula/recipe used and what is the reference used to confirm stability of the recipe?

We are looking for stability data for our formula and our facility does not allow for extrapolation. If anyone knows of literature that supports extrapolation of concentrations, please share.

Many thanks!

ENFit Oral Syringes

Our NICU wants to switch to NeoMed ENFit supplies.

After reviewing ISMP articles and other documentation, I'm concerned that this may not be the safest path to go. Even with the low dose tip, it seems there are concerns dosing variances higher than legacy male tip oral dose syringes. Yet, when I go to the manufacturer's website, their main focus seems to be neonates.

Any thoughts from any of you who have already been down this road?

Neonatal High Risk Stickers

Dear List,

What are your thoughts about adding a "Contains Heparin" sticker to the labels of low volume/high risk preps such as neonatal hydration fluids that contain heparin for maintaining line patency? It was suggested that this may be a way to reduce the risk of inadvertently administering a heparin-containing fluid.

Thank you in advance for your responses,
Jeff
