Hi all, we have seen an anecdotal (at this point) increase in post-partum hemorrhage over the last week, even in patients that have received usual amount of oxytocin. This has befuddled the medical director, and she is curious if there is a potential issue with the product we are using. Has anyone else using 503(b) oxytocin experienced anything similar recently?
Looking for information specifically to Post-Partum oxytocin infusion.
We have smart pump library for this drug/indication (soft max 333 mL/hr), but are getting push back because the drug needs to be run in as faster than 999 mL/hr therefore they run it by gravity and with a pressure bag. There concerns with using the pump are due to extravasation, infiltration.
We have seen an increase in the utilization of TXA in our OB population and questions regarding compatibility of these two drugs in the same line as infusions. Trissels has no compatibility data and I have not located in any other data to support administering these drugs together in the same line.
