Hello! Has anyone else been getting reports from their Cardiac Echo/Ultrasound areas regarding an increase in allergic/anaphylactic reactions after Lumason injection? We have received increased reports across our system that do not seem to be lot related. One common thread appears to be that all of these patients have received either PfiZer or Moderna COVID vaccines.
There was a recent update to Lumason package insert regarding the potential for allergic reaction if the patient has previously had an allergic reaction to PEG...which we know is found in the mRNA vaccines. Our echo techs have been asking patients about allergic reactions to either vaccine shot, but that does not appear to be predictive of these Lumason reactions. None of the patients experiencing reactions to Lumason had a similar reaction to their COVID vaccines.

We have successfully treated all of these patients, but our echo techs are feeling pressure/angst due to the increased numbers of reactions. If anyone else has any insight/experience in this, I would love to hear from you! (In theory, Definity would have the same risk, given it also contains PEG...so I would love any insight if you use Definity too!)
