Overwrap on IV bags- how do you label the bags?

Hello,
We are looking for the best practice on how to send the IV bags to the floors if the IV bag comes in the overwrap and it requires a patient label. Does your site remove the overwrap and label with patient specific label or do not remove the overwrap and flag the label and RN adds the label to the bag once overwrap is removed?

For many meds, once overwrap is removed, it has to be used immediately or within a short period of time, this results in wasted product if not used. On the other hand, if we send the bag with overwrap and flagged label, RN may not add the label on the bag or if the bag is not used it will come to pharmacy, but we wont know when it was opened.
Please share your process and any issues that you have encountered.

Thank you,
Viktoriya
