Patient specific barcoding for insulin pens

For those institutions using insulin pens:

1. Do you use patient specific barcodes for barcode medication administration (BCMA) of insulin from insulin pens?

a. If so, which EHR vendor do you use?

b. If so, how have built your insulin records to ensure the same pen and patient-specific barcode can be used to administer insulin for all orders? For example, three separate orders entered for insulin aspart – with mealtime, correctional with meals, and correctional at bedtime – and the patient-specific barcode allows the same insulin aspart pen to be used to administer insulin for all aspart orders.
