Pharmacy Programming IV Pumps

Hello MSOS,

I am curious if any inpatient facilities have a pharmacy technician and/or pharmacist involved in the process to program an IV pump prior to the RN initiating administration of the medication.

If pharmacy is involved in the programming:
- Which pharmacy personnel are involved?
- Which type of pump?
- How is the programming validated?
- How is pharmacy onboarded and continuous education maintained?
- Which situations/medications?
- Does programming occur inside the IV hood?
- Was pharmacy added to process related to a medication error? Has workflow prevented errors from occurring?

Any information or feedback on experiences is appreciated.

Make it a great day,
