I am reaching out to see if anyone is able to share their policy for scanning and administering medications in both the Inpatient setting and the Outpatient setting. We are interested in the purpose, bullet points and any clear expectations.
This topic presented in our Wound Clinic; we are trying to establish a clear expectation for scanning at the time of administration or application, for example Lidocaine Spray. Our understanding is that the nurse is not in the room at the time the provider is using the scannable meds (nurse may have moved on to the next patient at that point)--the provider is asking to be trained and allowed to scan the patient and the med in "real time". We are looking for guidance, suggestions and/or examples of any other similar situations in addition to a basic med scan policy or protocol.
Thank you in advance to each of you for sharing what you have if possible.
