Pharmacy is being challenged with feedback from nursing in the ED where Lorazepam inj is stored in a lock box in the ED pyxis refrigerators and the challenge in managing dispensing practices, especially with the use of a lock box key. (key stored in pyxis and must be removed before accessing the refrigerated lock box – completed through use of pyxis virtual kits). The current process has been established to ensure the Ativan inj is secure, while remaining compliant with the manufacturers recommendations for storage under refrigeration only. Nurses have state this process takes to long when obtaining lorazepam for emergent situations.

Can you please share how your facilities store/dispense Ativan inj in the ED setting?
