Recognizing the risk of Propofol-related infusion syndrome (PRIS) with propofol, we are looking to learn what safety measures health systems have implemented around the use of propofol. I would appreciate your responses to the following questions and any additional feedback:
My hospital will be converting soon from Alaris pumps to ICU medical pumps and we will no longer be allowing bolus from bag for propofol for our adult patients. Our system pharmacists as well as a couple of other affiliates decided it wasn't necessary as there is no good literature that supports use of propofol bolus and they are emphasizing using drip titration instead.
Updating our stop date policy. We do NOT consider propofol a controlled substance, nor do we impose a stop date. Do any of your organizations impose a stop date if you don't consider propofol a controlled substance?
