Insulin and NPO orders

hello!

At your institutions, if a patient is NPO are all short acting insulin orders discontinued or are they left on the MAR with either a communication order or verbiage in the ERX guiding RNs what to do?

Currently at our institution, insulin orders are left on the MAR but in the admin instructions is the verbiage "nurse to adjust % of insulin as follows: 100% meal eaten or to be eaten give 100% dose, 50% meal eaten or to be eaten given 50% meal dose, 0% meal eaten or NPO give no meal insulin (may use sliding scale insulin)".

Thank you in advance!
