NICU Bolus from the Pump

Hello,

Our NICU department would like to pursue bolusing from the pump for PRN Fentanyl orders when there is already a drip running. We do our best to get the prepared patient specific syringe ready when it is ordered, but the timing has been a problem from NICU's perspective. They suggested other local hospitals are sending up labels for the PRN order (not attached to a product) and that is what the RN uses when performing the barcode scan for administration action for the PRN order. I am uncomfortable with just sending a label to them and have it floating around. How do you handle bolusing from the pump and making sure there is a barcode to scan for the RN when you have a PRN order?

-Thanks in advance!
