Phenol Use

Good afternoon all,

I am reviewing our hospital's use of phenol in the OR, and was wondering if this practice continues at other institutions. If your institution previously used phenol, but is no longer performing this practice, would you be willing to share your journey away from the use of phenol? If your institution currently uses phenol, would you please consider answering the brief survey questions below? This is cross posted between Medication Safety and Clinical Specialists/Scientists forums.

Thank you all for your help and guidance.

Han

For institutions currently using phenol for nerve block:

1. Where is the phenol administered?
2. Is the phenol prepared in advance or when requested for specific patient cases?
3. Is the pharmacy dispensing the phenol? If no, skip to question 6.
4. How is the phenol dispensed from pharmacy?
5. What is your turnaround time for your pharmacy when dispensing phenol?
6. How is phenol dispensed if not dispensed from the pharmacy?
