Securing of pediatric scheduled medication in syringe pumps

Hi all,

I wanted to reach out for help and thoughts, especially from institutions that serve both peds and adults. We have an issue with our syringe pumps in peds not being secure. This is a problem for our scheduled medications (hyrdromorphone, ketamine, fentanyl, versed, pentobarbital). With needing to have these secure, we are concerned with the regulatory bodies (including the board of pharmacy). It has been discussed for years (prior to my being in this role) and is now on my plate. We reached out to Alaris to discuss and currently they have no option available and we are getting push back when trying to consider switching to the PCA module. The syringe pumps allow for per kilogram dosing and the PCA module does not, and the syringe pumps allow for bolus dosing without having to have a key each time nor do they have to be activated with push button mechanism, as is needed with the PCA module. We really need to get these medications secured. And this post is probably all over the place (like me at this moment...lol). Any guidance any one may have would be greatly appreciated!
