Use of Epic SecureChat

Donald McKaig's picture

Forums:

We are implementing Epic Secure Chat in the coming weeks and would like to hear from others who may be using this functionality around any issues they have experienced around following:
1. Use of pharmacy "groups" to manage messages--to avoid messages sent back to one single staff member who may no longer be working (e.g. shift change)

Silver nitrate swabs

Maria Cumpston's picture

Forums:

Hi all -
We usually procure a pack of 10 silver nitrate swabs for clinic use. The entire pack is taken into the patient room for use and the remainder of the pack is discarded with the used product. Our wholesaler only has a pack of 100 available. How do others handle silver nitrate swabs? Are they packaged in smaller amounts?
We are also concerned about removing single swabs for use in the room that the swab will be unlabeled and is a caustic substance.
Thanks -

Auto-verification in the Emergency Dept

Cortney Swiggart's picture

Forums:

We have pharmacists in all of our emergency departments for all except a few hours overnight. We currently verify all ED medication orders prior to administration (with the exception of true emergencies such as codes). We do not generally have problems with turnaround times and typically verify all orders within 5 minutes.

Oral Liquid Naming Standardization

Forums:

Looking for some feedback! Does your organization have an oral liquid naming standard for CPOE medication display names? See some examples below.

1. acetaminophen (TYLENOL) solution (no concentration in header)
2. ibuprofen (MOTRIN) 100 mg/5 mL suspension
3. topiramate (TOPAMAX) 14 mg/mL oral suspension

Appreciate your help in advance --

post-partum oxytocin

Forums:

Hi All,

Looking for information specifically to Post-Partum oxytocin infusion.

We have smart pump library for this drug/indication (soft max 333 mL/hr), but are getting push back because the drug needs to be run in as faster than 999 mL/hr therefore they run it by gravity and with a pressure bag. There concerns with using the pump are due to extravasation, infiltration.
