Hello,
Wondering how other institutions lock the Pediatric Broselow Crash Carts.
Does your site lock each drawer individually, use a single lock for the entire cart, or use a double lock system (med/supply)? If you use a single lock, which department locks it last (Pharmacy or Sterile Processing)?
We currently have the individual drawers locked. Our entity is assessing the value of a double lock approach for ease of tacking the lock numbers on the daily logs; where the medications are in drawer one with the first lock and the supplies in the subsequent drawers with a second lock. Pharmacy will now also be replenishing the IV fluids in the bottom drawer which will contain supplies provided by Sterile Processing as well. Pharmacy would be the last to lock this bottom drawer.
Are there any safety concerns or lessons learned your institutions have experienced with having individual, single, or double lock systems? Our Nurses prefer the individual locked drawers to limit access during a code.
Any references you have come across with specific recommendations on the preferred lock method?
Thank you in advance for the feedback.
