Forecasting Drug Use for COVID

Michael Van Ornum's picture

Forums:

Attached is a file which may be helpful forecasting how many days of drug may be left with current usage rates, inventory, and rate of change. PHI is stripped out, but the file retains the formulas, logic, and named references for institutions to adapt to their use. The estimated days remaining is based on maximum usage in the last 14 days to assume a worst-case scenario. Feel free to change this logic as needed. Hope this helps the COVID effort!

Stability of NeoProfen

Randi Trope's picture

Forums:

For pediatric institutions can you describe how you dispense NeoProfen? The package insert states to use within 30 mins of preparation so our pharmacy is dispensing a vial with the bedside RN needing to dilute and draw up appropriate dose.

However, I have heard information about possible 12 hour stability? If this is true can you provide documentation as such.

Thanks for your time,

Randi Trope

How has your Med Safety Role changed during COVID-19 pandemic?

Emily K D'Anna's picture

Forums:

Hello! Just writing out of curiosity...
As hospital COVID-19 pandemic 'surge plans' continue to develop and evolve, I wondered how everyone's roles as Medication Safety Officers were adapting?

Are most being pulled to the frontlines to staff in your licensed clinical roles (e.g. pharmacists, RNs, providers, etc.)?

Assuming yes, are you shifting review of errors / events to other disciplines / departments (for example, Risk)?

Medication access within a tent?

Jeffrey McCarthy's picture

Forums:

Our hospitals are going to be erecting tents outside the EDs to increase capacity. They will not be capable of having Automated Dispensing Cabinets in the tents. However, they want to keep a limited number of medications accessible in the tent. How have other organizations handled medication access within a tent?

Thanks, Jeff

Delivery of sedation meds

Forums:

My institution currently use the Alaris PCA module to deliver medications for sedation because the module allows for the syringe go be locked for security. We have a limited number of these PCA modules and are in the process of coming up with a contingency plan. How does your institution maintain security of CS medication containers during intravenous infusion?

How are your infusion practices changing?

Dennis Tribble's picture

Forums:

In this fast-paced environment, practices are changing constantly as new challenges arise. We are interested in a few things that we hope will help us respond appropriately to caregiver needs around infusion pumps:

1) Have you changed your set change time policy to reduce caregiver exposure?

a) If yes, from what to what? (e.g., 48 hours to 96 hours?) We are not
recommending such a change, just interested in knowing if others are
considering it.

b) If not, what is your current set change policy?

Forums:

Hello All,

We were not able to get any acterma IV and only able to buy acterma SC.
Does anyone use acterma SC in COVID patient, what is the dose?
Also, would you take 2 syringes for SC formulation and mix it as an IV formulation?
Thank you!
